About this piece

The moringa is the round-bodied water jug with a narrow neck and a ball-shaped lid that Brazilian ceramicists inherited for cooling water by evaporation — no spout, no handle, just the generous curve of fired clay. The name reached Brazilian Portuguese through an African route: dictionaries trace it to Kimbundu, a Bantu language brought to Brazil by the enslaved diaspora, long before the jug became a decorative piece. In this version, ceramicist and painter Dani hand-paints each one in ceramic, 20 cm tall and 12 cm wide.

About this pattern

On a background that transitions from saffron yellow to sandy beige, ceramist and painter Dani scatters a fine dusting of brown dots. This dotted pattern covers the entire surface of the vessel, from its generous body to the spherical stopper. On the piece's shoulder, a cluster of colorful circles seems to float. In shades of carmine, ochre, and chocolate brown, they overlap, evoking the gentle movement of drops spreading across water. This striking creation can keep water cool on a wooden table or punctuate a shelf with its solar vibrancy. One of a kind, with Dani's mark on the base.
