About this piece

The moringa is the round-bodied water jug with a narrow neck and a ball-shaped lid that Brazilian ceramicists inherited for cooling water by evaporation — no spout, no handle, just the generous curve of fired clay. The name reached Brazilian Portuguese through an African route: dictionaries trace it to Kimbundu, a Bantu language brought to Brazil by the enslaved diaspora, long before the jug became a decorative piece. In this version, ceramicist and painter Dani hand-paints each one in ceramic, 20 cm tall and 12 cm wide.

About this pattern

In this multicolour version of the moringa, a band of vibrant, overlapping circles wraps around the vessel’s belly and its spherical lid. Hues of magenta, cyan, lime green, and solar orange, each outlined by a fine, raised black line, stand out against the white surface dotted with delicate specks. The pattern, hand-painted by ceramist and painter Dani, evokes the energy of moving water, its circular forms mimicking ripples spreading from a single drop. This versatile creation can hold fresh water at the table or simply act as a colourful focal point on a shelf or sideboard. One of a kind, with Dani's mark on the base.
