The first dot

The first dot

Every object has a centre. It is not always the geometric centre — it is the point the eye goes to first when the piece is on the table.

The first dot sets the distance between all the others. If it is wrong, the whole composition has to start again, and starting again is part of the work.

That is why no piece repeats itself. Even with two identical objects, the first dot never lands in the same place.
